Visiting our animals – a quick health & hygiene note for families

We want everyone to enjoy meeting our animals safely. Like all animals (including pets), farm animals can naturally carry germs. The chance of anyone becoming unwell is very small, and we manage this carefully across the farm—simple handwashing is the best protection.

Please help us by following these easy steps:

  • Wash hands with soap and running water after touching animals, after being in animal areas, and before eating or drinking.
  • Hand sanitiser/wipes are handy, but they don’t kill animal germs and don’t replace proper handwashing.
  • No eating or drinking in animal areas.
  • Please follow our signs and staff guidance around the farm.
  • Gloves can carry germs too—if you wear gloves, please still wash hands after taking them off and before eating.

For added reassurance, the farm is laid out and run with clean systems, as well as you not being able to enter animal pens or fields to prevent your shoes touching animal poo, which poses more of an issue.

Pregnant visitors during lambing/kidding

During lambing and kidding, a small number of sheep and goats may carry bacteria in birthing fluids that can be harmful in early pregnancy. If you are pregnant, please:

  • wash hands after visiting any birthing area.

For added reassurance, our newborn lambs are kept in a pen (in full view) for the first few days after birth, to help prevent contact with birthing fluids, newborn animals, and mums with newborns, and so visitors can enjoy seeing them while not being able to touch them, which greatly reduces risk.

After your visit

If anyone develops diarrhoea after visiting (especially if it is severe or contains blood), please contact your GP/medical advice and let them know you have visited a farm.
